Retinol is one of the most studied ingredients for fine lines and uneven texture. It is also one of the easiest to misuse. If you are starting out, these simple rules will help you get the benefits without the irritation.

What is retinol?

Retinol is a form of vitamin A. Applied to the skin, it encourages faster cell renewal. Over time, this helps the skin look smoother and more even, and makes fine lines less visible.

How to start using retinol

  1. Start slowly: use it 2 to 3 evenings a week for the first weeks, then increase if your skin is comfortable.
  2. Use a small amount: a pea-sized amount is enough for the whole face.
  3. Apply at night only, on clean, dry skin.
  4. Avoid the delicate areas around the eyes, nostrils and lips.
  5. Keep the skin nourished: a formula that already contains nourishing oils, or a simple moisturiser on top, keeps the skin comfortable.

Is it normal for my skin to react?

In the first weeks, some dryness, light flaking or redness can happen while the skin adjusts. If it does, use retinol less often for a while. If you feel burning or strong irritation, stop and ask a dermatologist or pharmacist for advice.

Sunscreen is not optional

Retinol makes the skin more sensitive to the sun. In Morocco's strong sunshine, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every morning, even on cloudy days.

Who should avoid retinol?

Do not use retinol if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, and talk to your doctor if you have a skin condition or use prescription skincare. Avoid using it on the same night as strong exfoliating acids.

When will I see results?

Softness and glow can improve quite quickly, but changes in fine lines take regular use over several weeks. Consistency matters more than quantity.

A gentle way to begin

RENOVA night cream combines retinol with argan oil, shea butter and hyaluronic acid, so it renews and nourishes at the same time. Start with a few evenings a week and build up as your skin gets used to it.
